 ‘Sara’ Kidsilk Haze Mittens

sara mitts (2)

I first published this design in my book Little Luxury Knits, now out of print.  However, if you have that book, you also have this pattern.

These little mittens were probably one of the most popular knits in that book, for the reason, I think, that they are a simple yet satisfying and very fast knit.  They are simply constructed and very effective.  I used two shades of Kidsilk Haze – Jelly and Trance – which are worked together to create a lovely mingled effect.  This also produces a light, very warming and dense fabric.  Then at the finger opening, I worked a frill in each of the two shades.  This pretty feature adds a touch of glamour and also enhances the two mingled shades in the main part of the mitts.

The thumb is fully fashioned and the mitts have a comfortingly close fit.  Despite being fingerless, they are very snug.

You will need:

  • 2 balls of Rowan Kidsilk Haze, in two contrasting shades (I used Jelly and Trance)
  • 1 stitch marker
  • 2.75 mm double pointed needles
  • large safety pin or waste yarn to store the thumb stitches

Skills Used:

  • knitting in the round on DPNs
  • picking up and knitting (for the frill)
  • increasing

Skill level:  intermediate

Cost:  £4
