Owl Mitts

FT Mitts 1

Just flown in – my latest mitts – A Wisdom of Owls.

They feature beady little owls all round the wrist end of the mitten, emerging from a neat mock-cable cuff. The thumb has a simple side lace detail and is full fitted.  They are a surprisingly fast knit too.

You can make these in any DK yarn as long as it has a fair amount of animal fibre, ideally wool.  My recommendations are Rowan Superwash DK, Rowan Felted Tweed, Rowan Baby Merino Silk DK, or Lotus Sunset.

You will need 1 ball for a pair of ladies mitts unless you want to lengthen them, in which case you may need 2.

You will also need:

  • 3.00 or 3.25mm needles for knitting in the round
  • 20 beads; or 20 each of beads and sequins; or 20 tiny buttons
  • 3 stitch markers
  • cable needle

Techniques:

  • knitting in the round
  • beading
  • simple cables

I rate these as intermediate in terms of challenge and all the techniques are fully explained.
