Luxury Beaded Heart Bed Socks

These luxurious socks are knitted from the toe up, on two short circular needles.  Up the front of the socks, runs a series of beaded, lace hearts.  The top is finished with a simple rib, a stretchy cast-off and en eyelet feature so you can thread a ribbon through for decorative purposes.

The heel is fully fashioned, as is the toe, but there is no other shaping.  As they are knitted from the toe up, there is no seaming or grafting, either.

I knitted these in Fine Lace held together with Kidsilk Haze.  I also knitted a pair just in Fine Lace, and another in a different sock yarn.  They all worked equally well, but the Kidsilk Haze beaded version is your proper luxury option.

I also added (included in the pattern), a non-beaded motif, in case you wanted to make these as ‘real’ socks and wear them with shoes on!

I rate this design as intermediate.  You will need to cast on from the toe, using a figure of eight cast on;  increase; knit with beads (fully explained); pick up stitches (for the heel); knit in the round on two short circular needles; make simple lace motifs (fully explained); knit in simple rib; knit a simple picot cast off (fully explained).

You will need:

  • 2 X 2.5 mm fixed point circular needles, 40 or 60 cm long
  • 1 ball of Rowan Kidsilk Haze (or 2 to extend the socks significantly)
  • 1 ball of Rowan Fine Lace
  • 200 – 240 beads, size 8
  • Ribbon
  • lengths of waste yarn for life lining

This costs £4.
